Padilla Bay Foundation Holiday Newsletter
November 2020
Your Foundation Board wishes you all the very best during the upcoming Holiday Seasons. We have been working hard with many projects and activities and are so grateful for all your continued support.
How about the touch pool plumbed and operating and slowly being populated with interesting residents. At our virtual annual meeting we got a wonderful live-streamed walkthrough of it and hope to have more of those during the near future.
We held the virtual Smith-Aguero Lecture, made possible by the “Lance Christopher Smith and Benjamin Fisher Aguero Memorial Fund” for education of the public in the importance of estuarine ecosystem on October 07. Our own board member Dr. Paul Dinnel gave an informative review of restoring native Olympia Oysters in Fidalgo Bay. Thanks to all who tuned in and participated.
New board member Cathy Scott was elected at our October 17 annual meeting, along with renewing members Leah Rice, Brad Smith, and Si Simenstad. Cathy lives near the reserve, works at the Shell Puget Sound Refinery and is an avid photographer with experience helping numerous local non-profit activities. A welcome addition.
Board members, local residents, and Reserve staff teamed up on Saturday October 03 for a Reserve outdoor work party. Much needed help for trimming and weeding that has been hard to keep up with during the Covid work restrictions.
The National Estuarine Research Reserve program is 40 years old and the annual conference (virtual) recently concluded. We helped put together this attractive, successful “basket” for the auction.

The Padilla Bay Foundation’s mission is to provide supplemental funding to support the activities of the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Grassroots involvement of our members is the core of the Foundation’s commitment to protecting our estuaries and supporting the Reserve. Members of the Foundation contribute directly to environmental education, stewardship and research at Washington State’s only National Estuarine Research Reserve – one of 29 in the nation. If not already, please consider becoming a member or making a donation to help support our work
